Ch. Sylvan Hue and Cry

Hue started showing at 7 months with two majors under breeder-judges at supported entries. A few months later, a fence jumping accident left him with torn cruciate ligaments and the potential for permanent lameness at 12 months.

He actually was ready for sedation for a visiting ortho specialist to do surgery, when the specialist saw his radio-graphs for the first time and realized his growth plates had not yet closed, making him an unsuitable candidate for surgery. We took him home to wait for a few months and kept him confined.

When the appropriate number of months had passed to retry surgery, Hue had recovered enough that we chose to continue the non-surgical course.

Nine months passed, and Hue became sound enough to re-enter the ring, though not quite as perfect going away as he was originally. He completed his Championship in short order.

His high energy and youthful ways were likely to result in re-injury on the acreage of our farm and hard running with his kennelmates, so we opted to get Hue into a safer home situation. In the summer of 2012, he joined the long-time Borzoi home of Wear and Emily Alexander in central Florida.

Before he left, Hue sired a litter of two from Ch. Sylvan Nutmeg. Both Rafaella and Rubio finished easily, with daughter Rafaella winning Best Puppy at the 2013 National Specialty in an entry of ninety puppies.
